American Falls Library Director Position Application Information: 

The American Falls District Library Board of Trustees is seeking a Library Director to provide leadership and vision for our library and community.

Position Overview

The Library Director serves as the chief administrator of the American Falls District Library, responsible for the overall management, operation, and development of library services. This position provides leadership in planning, organizing, and directing the library’s programs, staff, and resources to meet the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community. The Library Director works under the general direction of the Library Board of Trustees.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration

● Oversee daily operations of the library, ensuring quality service to the community.

● Develop and implement policies, procedures, and long-range strategic plans in collaboration with the Library Board.

● Supervise, train, and evaluate library staff and volunteers.

Budget & Finance

● Prepare and manage the annual budget in coordination with the Board.

● Provide regular financial reports and ensure fiscal responsibility.

● Seek and administer grants, donations, and other funding opportunities.

Collection & Services

● Oversee selection, acquisition, and maintenance of library materials in all formats.

● Ensure library programs and services meet the diverse needs of children, teens, and adults.

● Expand access to digital resources and emerging technologies.

Community Engagement

● Serve as the public face of the library, fostering strong relationships with patrons, schools, community groups, and local government.

● Plan, promote, and evaluate library programs and outreach initiatives.

● Advocate for the library’s role in lifelong learning and community development.

Governance & Compliance

● Attend and report at Library Board meetings; implement Board policies.

● Ensure compliance with state library standards and reporting requirements.

● Maintain awareness of current trends in library services, technology, and management.

Qualifications

● Library experience required; supervisory or administrative experience preferred.

● Experience in library administration, education, public service, and/or bachelor’s degree required.

● Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills.

● Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

● Familiarity with budgeting, grant writing, and community outreach preferred.

● Commitment to serving people of all ages and backgrounds in a small-town community.

Compensation & Benefits

● Salary range: $45,000 to $50,000. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

● Benefits package may include health insurance, retirement plan, paid leave, and professional development opportunities (as determined by the Library Board). Employment is subject to the policies of the Library Board, including any probationary and evaluation periods.
