Mother-Daughter Book Club Meets April 21

Frog Princess Book Cover

Registration is now open for our mother-daughter book group  to take place on Thursday April 21 at 7 pm.

Girls ages 8-12 and their mothers, or another caring adult, are invited to participate in a lively book discussion, create a fun craft, and meet new friends. Refreshments will be served.

The group will read The Frog Princess, by E. D. Baker. After reluctantly kissing a frog, awkward, fourteen-year-old Princess Emeralda suddenly finds herself a frog, too, and sets off with the prince to seek the means–and the self-confidence–to become human again.  Although the Disney movie by the same name is loosely based on the premise of this novel, they are two very different stories – this is a wonderful, must-read book.

Registration forms and copies of the book are available at the library front desk.  Participants must register no later than April 16.  For more information call 226-2335.

BOOKS4BOYS Book Group March 17th

Registration is now open for a parent-son book group hosted by the American Falls Library. Books4Boys, designed to encourage boys ages 8-12 to read for enjoyment, will take place Thursday, March 17 at 7 pm.The One and Only Ivan

While the group strongly encourages fathers to participate with their sons, mothers or another caring adult, are invited to participate with their boys in a lively book discussion, engage in a fun activity, and meet new friends. Refreshments will be served.

The group will read The One and Only Ivan. Winner of the 2013 Newbery Medal and a #1 New York Times bestseller, this stirring and unforgettable novel from renowned author Katherine Applegate celebrates the transformative power of unexpected friendship. Inspired by the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, this illustrated novel is told from the point of view of Ivan himself.

Participating ina parent-child book group has many benefits. Parent-child relationships are strengthened. Reading skills and vocabulary are enhanced, self-confidence is nurtured and life-skills are acquired as children learn to articulate and communicate opinions in a group setting.  By setting the example, fathers and other adult role models can have a powerful influence on a boy’s desire to read.

Registration forms for the event and copies of the book are available at the library front desk. For more information call 226-2335.
