El Dia De Los Ninos Celebration April 25th, 5:30-6:60 PM

On Wednesday, April 25th from 5:30-6:30 pm, the AF Library will join libraries from across the country in celebrating El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), often known as Día.   Founded by children’s book author Pat Mora, Día has encouraged the celebration of children and books for more than 20 years.

The AF Library has partnered with the American Falls High School Spanish classes and the Senior Project Program to present a multicultural celebration of children, families, and reading, and emphasize the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Children and their families are invited to join us on April 25th to enjoy crafts, snacks, story time, and door prizes.  Each family will get to choose a free book to take home with them.  Information about programs and resources offered at the Library will also be available.

A Year of Miss Agnes by Kirkpatrick Hill

Ten-year-old Frederika (Fred for short) doesn’t have much faith that the new teacher in town will last very long. After all, they never do. Most teachers who come to their one-room schoolhouse in remote Alaska leave at the first smell of fish, claiming that life there is just too hard.
But Miss Agnes is different — she doesn’t get frustrated with her students, and she throws away old textbooks and reads Robin Hood instead! For the first time, Fred and her classmates begin to enjoy their lessons and learn to read and write — but will Miss Agnes be like all the rest and leave as quickly as she came?
